Preparing for registration

VETAB implemented the new national Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) 2007 on 1 July 2007.

Training organisations need to understand the requirements of AQTF 2007. In particular you need to read and understand the following documents before applying for registration as a training organisation:

  • Essential Standards for Registration
  • Conditions of Registration
  • User’s Guide to the Essential Standards for Registration

These documents can be downloaded from www.training.com.au

VETAB strongly recommends that you attend the RTO Workshops prior to lodging your application for registration. The workshops provide important information about the AQTF and the application process which will help you correctly prepare your application and avoid delays.

Under the AQTF 2007 you must comply with relevant Commonwealth, State or Territory legislation and regulatory requirements.  The NSW Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998 prohibits people with convictions for certain offences from applying for or remaining in “child-related employment”.   Background checking is mandatory for all people being recruited to positions in paid child-related employment (including contracted employees).  The NSW Commission for Children and Young People Act 1998 establishes a “Working with Children” background check that enables an employer to submit the names of preferred applicants for child-related employment to help inform recruitment decisions.   For more information read Advice for RTOs.
