Quality Assurance Services

VETAB’s functions are carried out by staff within the Quality Assurance Services (QAS) Directorate of the NSW Department of Education and Training. Three teams within QAS are responsible for the various VETAB functions:

Quality Systems:

  • implements regulatory policies and procedures
  • manages lodgement and initial processing of applications
  • manages VETAB customer service
  • supports the Board, and
  • provides policy advice on national quality arrangements.

Registration Services:

  • processes registration, renewal and variation to scope applications
  • manages audit processes
  • supports providers’ compliance with the AQTF Standards for RTOs
  • plans and implements strategic audits
  • manages national recognition arrangements
  • oversees national quality initiatives
  • develops and delivers professional development activities for AQTF auditors, and
  • builds relationships with other regulators.

Accreditation and Approval Services:

  • processes applications and manages audit processes
  • accredits vocational courses
  • manages the process of training package implementation
  • approves delivery of courses to overseas students
  • manages CRICOS in NSW
  • oversees national quality issues relating to overseas students
  • provides advice on accreditation and approval services
  • has responsibility for organisations seeking both RTO registration and CRICOS approval, and
  • manages audits of TAFE NSW institutes, schools and ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students) colleges.

Some functions are shared by Registration Services and Accreditation and Approval Services. These include processing and auditing applications for registration, re-registration and amendment to scope.

Accreditation and Approval Services has specific responsibility for organisations seeking registration as both a training organisation and approval as a provider of courses to overseas students. This team also manages audits of TAFE NSW Institutes, schools, and ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students) colleges.
